A full-day Tai Po Kau birding, not an acceptable photo taken but we could see a variety of Phylloscopus, a better study of their identification, including a Two-barred, dozens of Hartert's, 1 Sulphur-breasted, 1 or maybe 2 Kloss's, 1 green-crowned morph plus 1 likely grey-crowned morph White-spectacled and hearing the continuing Alstroms's Warbler, together with the normal Yellow-browed and Pallas's Warbler.
A Western Osprey was another hightlight of my day.
Still thinking which camera is better for forest birding.....
Please let me know when there is wrong ID or comments.
starting the day with a tart
a banana forest
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - this one no problem, a wet and yellow one
likely Hartert's Leaf Warbler - a quick one
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - no problem in this angle
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - but when it turned, the crown stripe recalling Sulphur-breasted, so contrasting!
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - pale flank, less contrasting head pattern seems easy to ID
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - again when it turned.... the angle and lighting can really affect so much
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - looked pale here
Hartert's Leaf Warbler but looked darker here
Hartert's Leaf Warbler
Hartert's Leaf Warbler
Hartert's Leaf Warbler
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - undertail, can show a thin white fringe
Hartert's Leaf Warbler - this one is challenging especially in this angle and light (also white balance). Overall this is a very yellowish bird, but the head pattern is really too pale / greenish to be a Sulphur-breasted
Black-winged Cuckooshrike - rest awhile
Kloss's Leaf Warbler - told by: a very Pallas's jizz bird, pale lower mandible without yellow rump. Also ID by call/song
Kloss's Leaf Warbler - again in certain lighting the plumage became yellowish
Kloss's Leaf Warbler - more white for this bird (comparing the Kloss's type earlier this year), maybe a tickable one for me?
Sulphur-breasted Warbler - more solid yellow tone with darker supercilium
Hartert's Leaf Warbler ? - another challenging one to me, not 100% sure but looked bigger ? than normal Pallas's and showing a hint of 'tree climbing' behavior ???
Hartert's Leaf Warbler ? - the crown stripe is faint
Hartert's Leaf Warbler ? - the undertail confused me the most, too white for typical Hartert's. But the plumage is too yellowish for Blyth's / Claudia's
Sulphur-breasted Warbler - undertail
Sulphur-breasted Warbler - in this angle and light, the supercilium looked pale, 1 or 1.5 wingbar is a feature which Hartert's usually show two distinct wingbar
Sulphur-breasted Warbler - the crown stripe became more contrasting here
Sulphur-breasted Warbler - eating
Sulphur-breasted Warbler
Sulphur-breasted Warbler - bill looks little bit longer than Hartert's ? also less rounded head
Sulphur-breasted Warbler - to me Sulphur-breasted would show broader median crown stripe, and thinner but darker (hence making more distinct & contrasting) lateral crown stripe, comparing the Hartert's head pattern above
Kloss's Leaf Warbler - likely
White-spectacled Warbler - likely, thought the broken part of the eyering seems strange? or just simply because of the angle. Whatever, I saw a Grey-crowned Alstrom's Warbler so the broken eyering may not help in some cases.....
