Mai Po 1 Jul 2018 - tree duck twitch

Today is the first day of July, a public holiday in Hong Kong, celebrating the 21st anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR. We went to Mai Po in morning mainly for applying a cycling permit for coming season.

Since we got the news of the Lesser Whistling Duck Dendrocygna javanica was refound by John in the same spot yesterday, we planned to make a twitch as well (this is a species Wing Tung and I missed in many places, like in HK, Singapore and Java..). After a walk under the sun (sweating a lot even we walked very very slowly), the small duck was sitting and waiting for us right there, sleeping at a great distance... still a lifer anyway.

our first view of the duck, we found the Little Grebe first, which was more obvious

the duck was sitting quietly on the left side of the grebe

and a Greater Painted Snipe popped up suddenly
