Tai Po Kau 28 Mar 2020 - what the hell

Both the sky and HKO treated me quite well, forecasted rain in morning and turned to be none, and once I arrived Tai Po Kau to look for Hodgson’s Hawk Cuckoo, rain started, and didn’t stop at all until i was back to the carpark.

What a day.

Nearly all creatures were heard only, interesting stuff only included Plaintive Cuckoo and Plain Flowerpecker.

Nothing on Radar, only rainwater in field

Ho Man Tin, Kai Tak and Hung Hom 22 Mar 2020 - hot day begins

A very hot day without interesting migrants, we visited Ho Man Tin and Kai Tak in the first half.

Both habitats are undergoing destruction, so we only got expected banana. Best bird in Ho Man Tin is Rufous-tailed Robin and Oriental Pratincole in Kai Tak.

We planned to be back home after that until we received call of a Chestnut Munia in Hung Hom - a species on HK list but the origin was doubted. This individual is likely to be an escapee too but we still decided to have a look, add one meaningless tick on our HK list.

HK Southern Water and Chai Wan 21 Mar 2020 - first boat trip this year and start of night bird survey

Not really right to call the boat trip as pelagic as we did not go far, not many interesting species but still some seabirds, include 3 Pomarine Skua, 3 Arctic Skua, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Common and Great Crested Tern and a flock of Streaked Shearwater (though not as a large flock as in Japan).

At night, started my first night bird survey near my home. Not a bad start with two true night bird species - Collared Scops Owl and Eurasian Woodcock.
