HK Wetland Park 1 Jun 2018 - Hawk Cuckoo again

First day of June, I went out before my long weekend, mainly for the cuckoo. And I immediately found the same Large Hawk Cuckoo with Masked Laughingthrush at the same spot. Then I just spent my whole lunchtime with this cuckoo, trying to get better photos and record the begging call.

Cuckoo was the best of the day? No. Afternoon was cloudy and cooler, after the tour I just went out to see the White-breasted Waterhen chicks, trying to get a clear shot but it was really hard, and also for swift and hopefully one or two swiftlet inside but only Barn Swallow and House Swift were seen in the large group, until one bigger bird was found - a first year Lesser Frigatebird. A real unexpected but not really surprising species in my local patch made the bird of the day!

this young bird called softly but all cuckoos have big mouth!

no pay no gain.. these are seeds of Bidens when I took the cuckoo.

the 4 White-breasted Waterhen chicks were hatched today

best of the day, a first year Lesser Frigatebird, also note the small bill to distinguish from other frigatebird species. The structure is really important feature for frigatebird ID, which we learnt in Java!
