Tai Po Kau 31 Dec 2019 - quiet rainy day

A very quiet day during rain, no wave at all and no Forest Wagtail.

Best in the boring forest is a single Speckled Piculet....

Shenzhen 30 Dec 2019 - food and food

We made a one day visit to Shenzhen, not for birds but food (and alcohol), though my friend brought me to the Siberian Scoter spot but we didn’t see. Anyway, still happy to see male and female Greater Scaup, Tufted Duck and close Northern Pintail.

I got a checklist too! https://ebird.org/checklist/S62765795

Tai Po Kau 29 Dec 2019 - birding in the rain

We made a half day birding in Tai Po Kau today (especially I need to tidy my room [and comp!] after the long election period and enjoy my Xmas gift - the Call of Duty).

We bumped the wave sever times but missed interesting warblers and the Forest Wagtail, we only saw Hartert’s (at least 4 individuals including a goodsoni), two Two-barred Warbler, and a Golden-spectacled warbler sp., very likely to be the grey-crowned White-spectacled Warbler (I shouldn’t be a serious birder then I can tick something even not existing or I could not see / identify, so conservative I am... lol).

We also enjoyed flight view of 3 Bay Woodpecker, and a silly Pygmy Cupwing even no good photos were allowed.

Wish to have better luck next time.

Tai Lam 28 Dec 2019 - Slaty-backed Flycatcher

We made a near-full day visit mainly for the Slaty-backed Flycatcher - which I missed several times before, and we were lucky to spot this naughty flycatcher at around 11am.

The naughty Brown Wood Owl was seen again in early morning, looked sleepy.

For the other highlights include a pair of Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush, Hume's Warbler and Tristram's Bunting.

And my 2019 HK Big Year is now 304.
