Remembering what we dipped is always far more easier than what we gained, like Silver Oriole, White-spectacled Warbler (again and again), Buff-throated Warbler, Pectoral Sandpiper, Crested Kingfisher etc. etc. etc.
For the highlights we seen, the usual Amur Falcon, many Collared Scops Owl, the second European Golden Plover, first Germain's Swiftlet, several Greater Scaup, Hume's Leaf Warbler, my favorite Lanceolated Warbler, Manchurian Reed Warbler, cutie Pallas's Reed Bunting, tickable view of Russet Grasshopper Warbler, 'photoable' Spoon-billed Sandpiper, finally tickable Styan's Grasshopper Warbler and the final tick in HK in 2018 - Yellow-streaked Warbler!
The most 5 memorable birds for us in 2018 in HK:
1. Manchurian Reed Warbler Acrocephalus tangorum - no doubt my bird of the year
2. Germain's Swiftlet Aerodramus germani - an overlooked species
3. Yellow-streaked Warbler Phylloscopus armandii - again probably overlooked!
4. Styan's Grasshopper Warbler Helopsaltes pleskei - final tick before the end of first stage
5. Spoon-billed Sandpiper Calidris pygmaea - we can finally have a photo showing its bill
Manchurian Reed Warbler - best of 2018!
Germain's Swiftlet - never a good photo
Yellow-streaked Warbler - the yellow streaks are hard to be seen but must be an important feature!
call of Yellow-streaked Warbler
Styan's Grasshopper Warbler - a record shot but still tickable!
Spoon-billed Sandpiper - we should include one wader in the roundup! And so the spoonie this year!
