Tai Po Kau and Long Valley 3 Jan 2020 - White-spectacled and buntings

We went to Tai Po Kau today, for the White-spectacled Warbler. After breaking the curse, it is easier for us to find the birds but still, not easy for photos. In TPK, we also saw Speckled Piculet and heard the Rufous-faced Warbler, nothing more special.

Afternoon, we went to Long Valley for the newly reported Crested Bunting, which was seen successfully, and we saw a Black/Red-headed Bunting but sadly the photos or view could not confirm its identity.

BigEar2020 is 67 now.

Black/Red-headed Bunting - honestly the plain color tone, small bill, short wing (seems) and plain head fit Red-headed Bunting more but a better photo is needed to confirm its ID

Tai Lam 1 Jan 2020 - start of 2020!

We spent our whole day in Tai Lam and the result was not bad, a good start of our 2020 birding year!

We saw our first owl of 2020 - a Brown Wood Owl in the usual site, the wintering Hume’s Warbler, Hartert’s Leaf Warbler, an unknown yellowish warbler (poor view, probably sulphur-breasted or golden-spectacled complex), Japanese Robin (we saw a male while Jon saw another female), heard the Speckled Piculet, and the flycatcher highlights - the male Verditer Flycatcher, Rufous-gorgeted and Slaty-backed Flycatcher.

A new year starts and we should make our new year birding plan!

Tai Po Kau 31 Dec 2019 - quiet rainy day

A very quiet day during rain, no wave at all and no Forest Wagtail.

Best in the boring forest is a single Speckled Piculet....
