Shui Hau and Pui O 24 Oct 2020 - Kentish day

We tried to look for White-faced Plover which is our HK tick but expectedly fail. We looked dozens Kentish Plover in different plumage.... Also migrating Grey-faced Buzzard.

Kentish Plover - we tried hard to find a White-faced but none of these Kentish Plover showed strong bill or long leg

Kentish Plover - legs and bill looked long in some certain angles

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover - we observed a huge variation of plumage

Eastern Buzzard

Little Egret

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover - not long we found a paler bird, but sadly the bill and legs seemed not a good match even in this angle it showed a 'long' neck

Kentish Plover - a really paler individual showing sandy upperpart

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover - wing pattern

Kentish Plover - theoretically the wing pattern of White-faced is stronger, broader white wing bar but I am not sure whether this bird is strong or not

Kentish Plover - as see here this individual is much paler than the other, but the size is similar, or even smaller, not a good point for White-faced which should be larger

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover - in flight again

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover

Kentish Plover - thin breast band is good for White-faced but again the bill is not strong

Kentish Plover - legs look pale but not pinkish enough

Kentish Plover - so... try harder next time

Grey-faced Buzzard in Pui O again
